Registration Open for Kids Holiday Workshops

AMA Holiday Workshops for Kids in K-7th Grade Are Dec 22, 23, 29, 30

The festiveness of the winter holidays sparks the imagination of children and preteens, and the Albany Museum of Art’s Kids Holiday Workshops are the perfect place for them to channel that excitement creatively.

“These are always fun art experiences for our young artists,” AMA Director of Education and Public Programming Annie Van Oteghem said. “Exploring color and different media has a way of brightening up the short winter days.”

Campers will dive into the world of art with guided tours of the AMA exhibitions. In addition to Echoes of the Past, a multi-gallery exhibition of African art, and A Legacy Built with Nature, which marks the 130th birthdate of Athos Menaboni, they will see work done by middle and high schoolers in the 2nd annual Southwest Georgia Student Art Exhibition.

“They’ll learn new art techniques and skills from our talented instructors, who really relate to kids,” Van Oteghem said. “There will also be holiday-themed projects that they can take home. Some may even become part of their family’s holiday traditions.”

The workshops will include holiday-themed games and screenings of favorite holiday movies.

“With different projects and activities planned daily, there’s always something new and exciting to look forward to,” Van Oteghem said.

The workshops are on consecutive Mondays and Tuesdays—Dec 22, 23, 29, and 30. A camper can attend one or all four workshops, and there are both full-day (9 am-4 pm) and half-day options (9 am-noon or 1-4 pm).

“The kiddos are out of school, but we know many parents will still be at work,” Van Oteghem said. “So, we are offering free early drop-off starting at 8 am and free late pick-up until 5 pm.”

Campers can bring a sack lunch, or the AMA will provide lunch on Monday for a $10 fee. All campers can enjoy free pizza on Tuesdays. “The pizza party on the last day of a camp week is an AMA tradition, even when we have a short two-day camp week because of the way Christmas and New Year’s Day fall,” she said.

Parents can register their kids for camp online HERE.

The cost for the workshop is $50 ($40 for AMA donors) for a full day or $35 ($25 for AMA donors) for a half-day.

“Because of the support for AMA art camps are provided by the Wayne and Alicia Gregory Family Foundation Paddle Raise at AMA Art Ball, we have scholarships available,” Van Oteghem said. Parents interested in applying for a scholarship for a camper can email her HERE.
