The Albany Museum of Art Will Host a Spooktacularly Fun Event for Kids on Oct 30
The Free Event from 3:30-5 PM Includes an Art Project, Games, Face Painting, and a Candy Hunt
Kids dressed like their favorite characters, from Buzz Lightyear and Princess Peach to Spider-Man and Bluey, can start trick-or-treating a day early on Friday, October 30, when the Albany Museum of Art hosts its annual Spooktacular from 3:30 pm to 5 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
“Every year, we turn the AMA into a fun ‘boo-seum’ where kiddos can dress up in their Halloween costumes and create art, play games, and go on candy hunts in the galleries,” Director of Education and Public Programming Annie Vanoteghem said. “We’ll also have face-painting.”
The AMA Spooktacular is ideal for ghosts and ghouls ages 3 to 10, but it’s a family-friendly event that everyone can enjoy, she said.
AMAzing Space will be filled with games for children to play as soon as the doors creak open. Families passing through the West Gallery to enter the activity center will be among the first to see the 3rd annual Student Art Exhibition of artwork by Southwest Georgia middle and high school students.
“The exhibition opens that morning, and families can help decide who wins the People’s Choice Award this year by voting for their favorite, using the QR code that will be posted,” Van Oteghem said. “We will announce the winner on November 7 at the Heart of Albany Festival at Tift Park.”
In the AMA Classroom, families can work on a spooky take-home art project, and face-painting will take place in the area that connects the classroom and AMAzing Space.
“All the art materials the kids need to create a hauntingly creative art project will be provided, and we’ll have volunteers offering any needed guidance and assistance,” Van Oteghem said. “If any trick-or-treaters need help deciding how they want to look on Halloween, our face painters may be able to give them some options.”
The candy hunts in the galleries will start at 4 pm. They will continue until 5 pm unless the intrepid hunters find all the sweet treats before that time.
“The hunts will be in different galleries according to age groups,” Van Oteghem said. “We want to make sure our littlest trick-or-treaters don’t get left out. And don’t forget to bring a bag or a plastic pumpkin for your candy. We hope everyone will come out to the AMA on October 30th and join in the fun!”
