Albany Museum of Art

Volunteer at the AMA

Volunteers play a vital role in the AMA’s mission. Volunteering at the museum provides personal enrichment, increased knowledge of the arts, and opportunities to develop new skills and meet new people. Being an AMA Volunteer requires that you maintain a professional and positive attitude and appearance as well as a respect for the galleries and our visitors. Volunteering is a wonderful way for students to enhance their educational and career opportunities.

Please complete this application and e-mail it to chloe.hinton@albanymuseum.com or return it in person at the AMA.

Docents
Our Docents add a special touch to the museum by giving tours of the galleries. The AMA offers training that provides docents with the specialized knowledge of exhibitions and artists needed to provide visitors with an enjoyable and enriching experience. The museum offers tours to students of all ages, local community groups, and individual private parties. Guided tours are also offered during selected gallery openings and special events. Becoming a docent requires only that you have an enthusiasm for art and a talent for communication.

Special Event Assistants
AMA is an active museum, hosting gallery openings, receptions, and special events throughout the year. Our Special Event Assistants provide a number of needed services that make these events successful, including pre-event mailings, event setup and decoration, and guest greeting and sign-in. Becoming a Special Events Assistant provides an excellent opportunity for networking as well as an opportunity to utilize your skills in a fun and exciting environment.

Front Desk/Clerical Assistants
As an AMA Front Desk/Clerical Assistant you will be involved with the daily operations and functions of the museum. AMA Front Desk/Clerical Assistants gain real world experience in the operations of an accredited art museum while developing an appreciation of the arts and the vital role they play in building a stronger community. Becoming an AMA Front Desk/Clerical Assistant is a great opportunity for anyone interested in public relations and customer service.

Please refer to these guidelines for being a volunteer at the AMA.
