Albany Museum of Art

ALBANY MUSEUM OF ART MURAL PROJECT

The Albany Museum of Art is moving to a new home in downtown Albany. You have the opportunity to create an original mural that will temporarily cover a portion of our future home on West Broad Avenue. The mural will serve to raise awareness about the relocation project, and to enhance the appearance of the site pending the relocation of the AMA.

BACKGROUND: Pre-construction work at the future site of the Albany Museum of Art included the demolition of an adjacent building. The result of that necessary step is two walls have areas of exposed block. This project will result in that cinderblock being covered with a vibrant image that will bring positive attention to the AMA’s move downtown. The mural is intended to remain in place until construction work occurs in the mural area. The future site is expected to open by 2025.

OPPORTUNITY: This opportunity is open to any artist who is age 18 or older in any discipline. Materials must be suitable for a two-dimensional artwork that can endure outdoor weather conditions.

DIMENSIONS FOR MURAL: Area 1: 73'8" x 17'4"; Area 2: 40'4" x 27'4"; Area 3: 53'4" x 27'4". Total size: 3,835 square feet.

DEADLINE: To be considered, a submission must be received by noon (EDT) on December 3, 2021.

NOTIFICATION: The winning artist will be notified by noon (EDT) on December 17, 2021.

TIMEFRAME: Work on the mural may begin as soon as an artist is selected and an agreement between the AMA and the artist is signed. It must be completed by March 12, 2022.

FUNDING: The selected artist/artist team will be compensated a total amount not to exceed $5,000, which includes the artist fee, installation and material costs. Artists from outside the South Georgia area should note that the AMA does not offer travel arrangements or accommodation reimbursement beyond this artist fee.
