Art Ed. Connect Presentation Proposals Sought

Deadline for Proposals Is Sept 18, 2023

Art Ed. Connect Professional Development Workshop is Oct 11, 2023

The Albany Museum of Art is accepting proposals from art educators who would like to be presenters at the Oct 11 session of Art Ed. Connect, a professional development program for art educators in South Georgia. The deadline for proposals to be submitted is Sept 18.

“Art Ed. Connect fills a need for art educators, who often feel like they are alone on an island,” AMA Director of Education and Public Programming Annie Vanoteghem said. “This professional development event lets teachers share thoughts and ideas, and helps them build a strong support network of educators who face the same challenges.”

Art educators teaching kindergarten through college will come together for a chance to meet with and learn from their peers, network, and grow a support system. Participants will participate in discussions and hands-on workshops, discover new effective lesson plans, discuss classroom management and climate, tips, and tricks, and be inspired with innovative ideas to take back to their classrooms. Additionally, participants will receive a tour of the fall exhibitions, engage in gallery discussion, and practice Visual Thinking Strategies.

“Each time we host this workshop, there is more value for participants,” Vanoteghem said. “We strive to ensure the sessions are relevant, practical, and useful. Only those in the classrooms know what is needed and what is effective, which is why we need strong proposals from dedicated educators.”

One of the most beneficial parts of the session is when educators hear how others in their ranks have found success in the classroom.

“Real-life examples of what works are invaluable to educators who are often the only art teacher at their respective schools,” Vanoteghem said. “It takes theory and turns it into a practical application that can benefit many more classrooms of students.”

Presenters do not pay a registration fee and receive compensation. They are not required to bring their own supplies. Proposed presentations, which must be submitted by 5 pm on Sept 18, can be a hands-on lesson or demonstration, a presentation of research, a presentation of new ideas or resources, a physical activity/game, or a group discussion. Proposals should be emailed to Vanoteghem HERE.

The cost to attend this professional development opportunity is $30 per educator. Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided. If a registrant’s school requires documentation or an invoice, contact Vanoteghem at the above email address. A registration link may be found HERE.
