Inspired Georgia:
Contemporary Photography

February 6 - April 7, 2018
East Gallery

Images from the book "Inspired Georgia" are now on tour throughout the state.  Each venue will serve as a host for these remarkable photographs as well as literary events celebrating local poets and contributors.

The collection takes the artist's identity as a Georgian as its launching point, without asking the artist to use that identity to document the state. The volume is presented as parallel anthologies that overlap and intertwine the visions and voices of eighty-five exceptional Georgia artists.

The objective of the format is that the poetry and photography do not seek to explain one another but rather begin a conversation with one another and invite the reader to seek a deeper understanding of the imagery provided by each and their connection to one another. A landscape portfolio by photographer Diane Kirkland is placed at the center of the book to root readers in Georgia as a sense of place.

Available in the AMA's
Hodges Sales Gallery, the book, Inspired Georgia is a co-publication with Georgia Council for the Arts, GA Poet Laureate Judson Mitcham, University of Georgia Press, Atlanta Celebrates Photography, Georgia Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts and was fueled by a shared desire by the partners to honor Georgia as a nexus of creativity.
